What's different about driveways in Nokomis & Laurel
West of I-75 the driveways are 1970s to 90s pours on native Myakka and Immokalee sand: Sorrento East and South, Calusa Lakes, Mission Valley, Laurel and Venice Hills. Settled at the garage, cracked across long panels, orange from well-water sprinklers. Replacement is the standard: compaction of the backfill along the garage, 4 to 6 inches of base by how wet the lot sits, fiber 4,000 PSI slab on #3 rebar, joints sawn at 8 feet, apron to the county detail, heads moved. Calusa Lakes reviews color; most of the older neighborhoods don't.
The county's Venice office at 4000 South Tamiami Trail is the closer permit counter.
Rules that apply here
County right-of-way use permit and flatwork review (rules); Calusa Lakes and the newer communities review; septic drain fields on some Laurel lots limit widening.

Scope: demolition, garage strip compacted, 4 inches of base, a 4-inch slab of fiber-reinforced 4,000 PSI concrete on #3 rebar, an 8-foot joint spacing, apron under the county ROW permit, sprinklers re-aimed off the hardscape, penetrating sealer at 28 days. Budget band: $5,800 to $8,600.
