What is the Sarasota Concrete Cost Index?
A quarterly index of installed price per square foot for concrete and paver work in Sarasota County and the Charlotte County coast, by service, material and locality. Version 0.1, published September 10, 2026, is a baseline compiled from published Sarasota-area pricing. From the first quarter of 2027 each release reports the provider's own completed jobs with sample size, median and quartiles.
The data is published as a table here and as JSON at /api/cost-index.json under a CC BY 4.0 license. Localities with fewer than three jobs in a quarter are suppressed rather than estimated.

Method for the quarterly releases
- Every completed job in the quarter is logged with service, material, locality, square footage, installed price excluding permit fees, demolition and add-ons priced separately.
- Price per square foot is computed per job.
- For each service-material-locality cell with n ≥ 3, the release reports n, median, 25th and 75th percentiles.
- Cells with n < 3 are reported at county level only.
- Each release states the period, the number of jobs, and limitations (mix of job sizes, island logistics, unusual scopes).
- Releases are dated and never overwritten; prior versions stay available.
Limitations
- The baseline is not the provider's data; it's what the local market publishes.
- Quarterly samples from one provider are small; the index describes that provider's work, not the whole market.
- Installed price excludes demolition, permit fees, drains, coping and lighting unless the release says otherwise.
- Island logistics push per-foot prices up; the locality field lets readers separate them.

Questions we get about this
What is the Sarasota Concrete Cost Index and how is it calculated?
A quarterly index of installed price per square foot by service, material and locality, built from the provider's completed jobs in the prior quarter: sample size, median and quartiles, with localities under three jobs suppressed. Version 0.1 is a baseline compiled from published Sarasota-area pricing on September 10, 2026 and is labeled as such; the first data release is planned for April 2027 with first-quarter 2027 jobs.
Can I cite or reuse it?
Yes. The index is published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license as a table on this page and as JSON at /api/cost-index.json. Cite Sarasota Concrete and the release date.
Why publish this at all?
Because cost ranges without a method are marketing, and Sarasota has none with one. Realtors, property managers, condo boards and homeowners get a number they can point to; the provider gets held to it.
Why a local index exists at all
Search for what a pool deck costs in Sarasota and you will find national aggregators quoting a range built from Ohio and Arizona jobs, contractor pages quoting a number with no date, and marketplace estimates derived from lead volume rather than invoices. None of them tell you the sample, the period or the geography, so none of them can be checked.
An index that names its sample size, its quarter and its limitations can be checked, and can be wrong in public. That is the point. It also gives every other page on this site a source to cite that is not a competitor's marketing copy, and it gives other people something to cite too, which is why it carries a CC BY 4.0 licence and a stable JSON endpoint.
What the quarterly release will contain
| Field | Definition | Example |
|---|---|---|
| quarter | Calendar quarter of job completion | 2027-Q1 |
| service | Service slug from this site | pavers-pool-decks |
| material | Material where it changes the rate | travertine |
| locality | Tier 1 locality or county rollup | siesta-key |
| n | Number of completed jobs in the cell | 4 |
| median_psf | Median installed price per square foot | 23.40 |
| p25_psf, p75_psf | Quartiles, reported only when n is 4 or more | 21.80, 25.10 |
| excludes | What is not in the per-foot figure | demolition, permit fees, coping, drains |
| notes | Anything that moved the cell | two jobs included bridge staging |
Cells with fewer than three jobs are reported at county level only, so a single unusual project cannot move a locality number. Releases are dated and never overwritten; when a figure is corrected, the correction is a new release with a note, and the prior release stays available at its own URL.
How to cite it, and what it cannot tell you
Cite it as: Sarasota Concrete, Sarasota Concrete Cost Index, version and date, retrieved from the JSON endpoint. The licence allows reuse with attribution, including by other contractors, journalists and property managers.
What it cannot tell you: what the whole Sarasota market charges. It is one provider's completed work. A provider that declines the cheapest jobs will show a higher median than the market, and a quarter with three island decks in it will show island logistics baked into the number. Those limitations are printed on every release rather than hidden in a methodology page, because an index that pretends to be a market survey is worse than no index at all.
What the first release will and will not be able to say
Being specific in advance about the limits of a dataset is the difference between a source and a marketing asset. Here is what version one, planned for the first quarter of 2027, is expected to support.
| Question | Will the first release answer it? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| What does a paver pool deck cost per square foot in Sarasota County? | Probably yes, at county level | Pool decks are the highest-volume service; the cell should reach n of 3 or more |
| Does Siesta Key cost more per square foot than Palmer Ranch? | Probably not yet | Locality cells need their own sample; island jobs are fewer |
| Is travertine more expensive than concrete pavers here? | Yes | Material is a reported dimension from the first release |
| Are prices rising? | No | A single quarter has no trend; that needs four releases |
| What does the whole Sarasota market charge? | No, ever | This is one provider's completed work, and the release says so |
Publishing that table before the data exists is a commitment: when the release lands, it can be checked against what was promised. An index that quietly expands its claims once the numbers arrive is not a measurement, it is an advertisement.
