What's different about repair in Placida, Grove City & Cape Haze
Placida's waterfront repairs are salt: scaled slab edges, spalled coping, tilted lift-motor pads on fill that settled. Patches are polymer-modified and sealed; pads are replaced at 6 inches on compacted base; slabs with rust bleeding through are replaced. Grove City and Cape Haze inland repairs are the settlement pattern, lifted after the water is fixed. Slabs on the sound that stood in the 2024 surge are sounded for voids first.
Seawall caps, docks and anything waterward of the wall are marine construction with their own license and permit.
Rules that apply here
Charlotte County may treat larger slab repairs as permitted work; confirm at (941) 743-1200 (rules); marine work excluded from this site's scope.
A worked example
A 2001 waterfront home on the Cape Haze peninsula with a boat-lift motor pad tilted 2 inches on settled fill and a scaled driveway edge. Scope: old pad removed, subgrade compacted, new 6-inch pad with #4 bar on compacted base raised 3 inches, conduit sleeved; driveway edge patched with polymer-modified mortar and the driveway sealed with a penetrating product. Charlotte County permit for the pad. Cost band: $2,200 to $3,600 including fees.
Can the seawall cap be repaired with the pad?
No. The cap is marine construction under a different license and permit; the pad and the driveway on the upland side are the concrete work quoted here, and the estimate says where the line is.
