What does a pad cost in Fruitville or Bee Ridge?
Small pads about $9 to $15 per square foot and larger slabs $8 to $12, so an AC pad runs $350 to $700, a 10-by-12 shed pad $1,200 to $2,000, a 12-by-30 boat pad at 6 inches with #4 bar $3,200 to $4,800, and a 14-by-45 RV pad $5,500 to $8,000. Pads sit 2 to 4 inches above grade so August rain doesn't stand against the equipment.

What's different about slabs & pads in Fruitville & Bee Ridge
The half-acre and acre lots along Bee Ridge, Fruitville and Lorraine roads are where the county's boat trailers, RVs, workshops and generators live, and where the ground is worst for them: flatwoods sand with a shallow water table and a hardpan that keeps it wet. Every pad here gets a compacted subgrade, 6 inches of base for anything a vehicle sits on, a raised edge, and a slope to the swale. Generator pads are poured to the manufacturer's template; shed pads under 100 square feet follow the county's shed exemption.
Zoning on the larger lots allows accessory structures the small lots don't; the county checks setbacks and the 50 percent impervious cap.
Rules that apply here
Detached sheds of 100 square feet or less generally exempt; larger pads and any structure on them reviewed through Accela; generator and AC pads usually ride with the equipment permit (county rules); ARC review in the newer Fruitville subdivisions.
A worked example
A 1991 home on an acre off Lorraine Road: a 14-by-40-foot RV pad, a 12-by-16 shed pad and a generator pad. Scope: subgrade proof-rolled (soft pocket found and dug out), 6 inches of base for the RV pad and 4 for the others, RV pad at 6 inches with #4 bar on 18-inch centers and a steel plate at the jack point, shed pad at 4 inches with a thickened edge, generator pad to the template with conduit sleeved, all raised 3 inches above grade and sloped to the swale. County permit for the shed (over 100 square feet) and the generator. Cost band: $9,000 to $13,000 for the three.
Does a boat pad need a permit in unincorporated Sarasota County?
As a slab with nothing on it, often not, though the county's zoning review checks setbacks and impervious cover; with a cover or a structure on it, yes. Ask Accela before pouring; the answer is free and the after-the-fact permit isn't.
